How to Reset a Skoda Key
Just received a notification from my infotainment device to inform me that the battery for my key is low and requires replacement. This isn't the first time, and the last time I went to an auto dealer they replaced it for free in 2 minutes and said it will be working again.
Switch the ignition ON and lock the vehicle mechanically. Press the unlock button five times at intervals of 1 second on the remote control. A short horn tone will play.
The EEPROM Method
When your car key stops working, it may take an extended time for a professional technician to reprogram it. In most cases, this means looking through the EEPROM to determine the unique code for that specific car. This is a risky process, as there's a good chance that the information stored in the module will be corrupted. It is best to leave this to a skilled locksmith.
An EEPROM (non-volatile) memory is used in a wide variety of electronic devices like car keys. It stores data, which includes the unique security codes or encryption keys that are recognized by your car when you use the key to unlock it or start it. These codes are vital because they notify your car that you are the owner of the key and have the right to drive.
If your EEPROM is corrupted, keys will cease to function. The problem is caused by pressing the wrong key or accidentally hitting the wrong key. You can try to reset it by using a special tool, but this method is not certain to work. It's best to hire an expert who has extensive experience in programming automotive keys.
To reset your EEPROM you must first remove the Kessy module from the vehicle. This is the module just above the accelerator pedal located on the left side of the car. With a screwdriver, remove the single plastic clip holding it in the position. After that, unplug the two connectors to electrical power and pull it out of the vehicle. Then, you can read the EEPROM with a SOIC8 or micro pincers connected to a programmer. Once you have all the data you are able to save the file and write it back to the EEPROM.

To read the EEPROM data, you can utilize a program like PonyProg and click Read Device. The EEPROM dump will appear as a hex array of characters. Three hex values stand out: the KEY_CODE (key_code), the key_count (key_count) and the V_ARG_ENABLED. You need to change all other Hex values to 00 to "virginize" the chip. After this you are able to flash the chip to restore its functionality.

The new generation of keyless entry systems - like the ones that are included in the latest OCTAVIA and electric ENYAQ iV cars - comes with an ingenious security feature that blocks thieves from "signal extension". The car transmits an alarm and the key must respond within a specified time. If the key doesn't respond, the car cannot be unlocked and starts to ring its alarms.
A sensor located in the handle of the door can also be used to tell the car that the key is nearby. It transmits an electrical signal to the internal coil inside the key, and then transmits the signal back to the sensor. If the sensor detects it then the car will open itself and activate the interior lights automatically, if it is set to do so.
Even the older keyless entry systems have an old-fashioned backup. If the remote isn't working it is still possible to manually open the driver door. You can do this by sliding the blade out or, in certain models, by pressing a button on the pocket. This is especially helpful when you've lost your keys or if the battery has gone out.

If you've recently purchased a remote control and it does not work in your vehicle the seller may not have programmed it to work with your vehicle. You may also find that the battery terminals have become loose. They'll appear loose and may be soldered in. Soldering them back into place should bring back the full function. Switch off the ignition and secure the car from the inside by using a second, unmatched key (this resets memory position 1). Enter channel "01". (Can be channel "21" on some Audi models.) Insert the new keyfob in the driver's door, and then press the unlock button twice in less than 5 seconds.
Repeat this coding procedure for up to four additional remote controls. Make sure to turn off the ignition when programming each remote. You will hear a sound each time you successfully code the remote.
